It also probably means that your enemies won't stay in one place and that you'll have some foresight of who might be attacked. It would make sense that you would then have to incorporate elements like friendly fire, which only really exists under very specific circumstances in DD, but would be pretty easy in this version. Would it be that characters have a movement pattern, as well as an attack with an effect area? So in a single turn they would move and attack. I'm not too familiar with this style outside of chess though. For example, the Shattered Dimensions DLC would fit in perfectly with this idea literally playing across a new dimension that wasn't accessible before. As a mod or dlc though, probably an interesting new dynamic for players. The mechanic itself is fine, but I think it would be way too controversial if it were to replace the current system. I feel like this would be too severe a change to the gameplay style.
